Are you proud that you smoke?
Do you know someone that smokes, but isn’t so proud of it?
A while back I wrote about whether smoking is still a thing and I just can’t get it off my mind.
I’ve never met someone who is proud to be smoking.
And to go through life doing something that you are not proud of multiple times a day, or even occasionally, is not what we are meant for. Period.
Every day I talk to people about smoking. I’m not one of those “You know you shouldn’t be smoking, right?” kinda doctors (gag!), but I talk to people about if they smoke, why they smoke, what their day is like, what their mood is like, what their environment is like, and what their budget is like.
And I let them know: I LOVE to help people quit smoking.
And I LOVE to help people simply start the process of considering quitting smoking.
Quitting smoking is a journey. It is not a one-off event.
It takes preparation, support, and execution. If you think you want to “just do it” or try to traverse that journey alone...well in the wise words of my seven-year-old “no bueno!”
Now, I know some of you know someone who knows someone who quit “cold turkey” after a gazillion years and did great, felt great and never went back. I’m not saying that can’t happen.
I’m just saying I know someone who knows someone who won the lottery, but that is not the wealth-building plan that I put my chips on!
The journey of quitting smoking isn’t a stroke of luck or “If I could just try harder” kind of thing.
It’s a process of thinking about yourself, your life, your environment, your motivation and gradually training your brain to not want the habit or the chemical with various forms of support.
We can teach an old dog new tricks. We can train our brain to behave differently.
And the real kicker is...this can be FUN! I’m serious.
Just because you kick tobacco out of your life doesn’t mean you lose your best friend. We can create an alternate plan that brings the calm and fun that makes you NOT miss tobacco.
I’ve been doing this with patients for over fifteen years, but it recently occurred to me that there are A LOT of people who could benefit from this process that I can’t possibly see in the office. And a lot of people who just don’t have the time or interest to come into the office to do this with me.
Introducing: 6 Weeks to Tobacco-Free
So I got creative. And put my doctor professor side to work.
I’m creating a stop smoking (or dipping or vaping) “school.”
Let’s call it Rx: Tobacco-Free Life. Because that is the best prescription I could write for you...a tobacco-free life!
In this “stop tobacco school,” we will:
- Hold a LIVE kick-off even on March 10th in our newly renovated office space!
- Walk you through the exact process that I have developed with patients over the last fifteen years.
- Use a combination of live chats, videos, worksheets, quizzes, and reflections.
- Provide online and in person support, even beyond the 6-week course
- Create and implement the best plan to get YOU where you want to be...tobacco-free!
- And in this beta version, you will help me too. Along the way, you’ll get to tell me what you like, what you don’t like, what makes sense, what needs more clarification. We’re founding this school together in a sense!
